Power strips or surge protectors or an inexpensive way to protect your appliances against random power spikes. Which can cause damage if not completely rendering your devices ineffective. A power surge occurs when the current of electricity is interrupted and then resumes. Our devices do not like that, at all. So, what is the difference between a surge protector and a power strip?

The difference between a power strip and a surge protector is very different. A power strip is usually a cheap multi-outlet product and is merely an expansion from a wall outlet. They won’t have a circuit breaker on and off switch and they really don’t offer any real protection per se from electrical issues, but they will offer you more plug-in capabilities from your wall outlet. And there are some devices you should never, ever plug into a power strip.

A search protector however offers a higher level of protection against power spikes. And that’s what you want to purchase to protect your stuff.

So there’s this rating system called joules. The more joules the better it is handling the electricity to the device which can handle a large surge, or small multiple surges before your devices are in danger. However, you should know that surge protectors wear down over time, and they need to be replaced. That’s a little unknown fact that most don’t know. So you want to be prepared when purchasing that you’ll be able to re-purchase it for the same value in a few years.
